Standard Recording Fees
The Recorders Office maintains all official real estate documents and provides retrieval and reproduction of these records for the public and businesses. Some of the official documents the Recorder has are: deeds, contracts, mortgages, assignments, releases, easements, plats & surveys, state & federal liens, and trade names.
Basic recording fees are $5.00 per page plus $2.00 per transaction surcharge. Deeds require an additional auditor's transfer fee of $5.00 per parcel. See a representative listing below:

*In addition to the above fees, Affidavits of Surviving Spouse, DEEDS, CONDEMNATIONS, CHANGE OF NAME, CONTRACTS, and FORFEITURES OF CONTRACTS, require an additional $5.00 transfer fee for each separate parcel of real estate involved. Maximum fee $50.00.
Revenue tax affixed to represent the full sale price over $500.00 (Click here for tax calculator). If exempt from revenue tax, exemption must be so stated on the face of the document. (Exemptions are listed in Code of Iowa Chapter 428A.2)
Effective July 1, 1987, each Declaration of Value submitted to the Recorder must ALSO have a Groundwater Hazard Statement submitted with it. [Code of Iowa Sec. 558.69] Groundwater Hazard Statements are exempt on all conveyances that are exempt of Declaration from Value except LEASES AND PLATS.
A document that contains more than one transaction, will be charged an additional $7.00 per transaction.
